There are so many ways you can upcycle items in the comfort of your own home – upcycling ideas make for an endless book. Have an old jar? Make it a candle holder or a potpourri case. Grown out of a sweater? Make it a throw pillow or scarf.
Upcycling has penetrated past your home’s walls and is now a rapidly growing industry, with companies selling upcycled goods or rewarding those who continue the trend. Here are 5 companies with upcycling ideas that are here to stay.
What began in 2001 by 20-year-old Tom Szaky, who began to produce organic fertilizer by packaging liquified worm poop in used soda bottles, TerraCycle is now one of the fastest-growing green companies in the world. The company creates waste collection programs for waste that is impossible or difficult to recycle. TerraCycle converts the waste into new products, such as park benches or backpacks.
Recyclebank is an online portal that rewards users with local deals and discounts for their green deeds, and all it takes is answering a few quiz questions, recycling at home or sharing the site with friends to win. All you got to do is register to get started.
3. Playback Clothing
Playback clothing creates tees, hoodies, and sweatshirts by transforming trash – plastic bottles and clothing scraps – into eco-clothing! The company also retains the original color of recycled material (so no chemical dyes!).
Preserve is a company that collects recycled goods and makes toothbrushes and kitchenware. Most of these recycled goods include recycled plastic yogurt containers, lip balm tubes, and Brita water-filtering systems.
