October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so you've likely found thousands of products emblazoned with pink ribbons, packaged pink (even the NFL players are wearing pink!), or otherwise sold with a promise of a small portion of the total cost being donated to support the cause. We are here to tell you that just because a company is flying their pink ribbon proud, sadly that does not necessarily imply said company is in fact practicing what they so prettily preach. It's a phenomenon we should all be wary of - sister to equally emphatic greenwashing - watch out for pinkwashing, please.

When you buy something, you want to know what's in it - right? You wouldn't buy a car without popping the hood, only to find out later that your super-charged Hemi engine is actually an oversized hamster wheel. Hamster not included.
That goes double for food. If you can eat it, you better know exactly what it has or doesn't have in it. So that's why its great news that the United States Federal Court overturned a ban on labeling milk as “artificial hormone free.”

What's the best way to know you're slathering your body's largest and most beautiful (well, arguably so) organ with a healthy, natural product? Our favorite acronym sums it up: DIY! And since fall has dawned it's lovely crisp air upon us, a moisturizer that can keep you supple in simple Do-It-Yourself style will create a prevention or correction plan like no other, all in a couple of easy steps with a couple of natural, emollient ingredients. We're dubbing this the all-purpose lotion slash moisturizer slash salve slash balm slash cream slash dry skin vanquisher.

In New York City we have a thing called “street meat.” Although the wafting scent will get your mouth watering, the actual taste and quality leave a lot to be desired and you will most likely feel gross an hour later. However, street vendors are popping up more and more each month (and in other cities too) and thankfully they’re going for quality food that’s tasty and healthy. Here are my top three favorites:

You can be pretty sure that the great Greek doctor and philosopher, Hippocrates, wasn't referring to breakfast at IHOP or Doritos for lunch when he suggested we let our food be our medicine. Rather, he implied eating simply and naturally, so that we nurture our bodies with an array of vitamins, minerals, proteins and fibers found in a well-balanced unprocessed diet. When we eat clean whole foods, we’re not only staying healthy by consuming vital nutrients, but we're also staying healthy by avoiding potentially harmful food additives.

We cook a lot of organic goodness in our conscious kitchens, right? If you haven't already made the switch, take your stab at this opportunity to win a set of green kitchen utensils.

Every day our dogs remind us to appreciate life. From snuggling to playing to barking at unseen intruders, they approach each task with the same joy and enthusiasm as the time before, reminding us to forget that never-ending to-do list, and enjoy today! Vivacious and full of life, there’s nothing we want more as dog owners than to help them stay that way (although sometimes I wish they were just a little less enthusiastic about my shoes). One way to keep them healthy is through diet. It’s easier than you think to have them eating well, even if you’re short on time.

Never mind bald eagles, baseball, apple pie, and red, white, and blue. That stuff isn't America, Denny's is America. Oreo pancake balls, Bacon Slamburgers, The Grand Slamwich, and Moons Over My Hammy - God bless America! Denny's menu should be our country's flag, not those wussy stars and stripes.

Gamay Noir is one of Europe's great red wine grapes, but it hasn't made the same inroads in North America that its cousins, such as Merlot, have enjoyed – yet. One place it's breaking ground is in Oregon's Willamette Valley, which isn't as famous as Napa or Sonoma – yet. We think both the variety and the region need to be on your radar ASAP.
