BabyCakes Image
Gluten-free, egg-free vegan baked goods have come a long way from the days of tasteless cardboard grit, and BabyCakes Bakery is catering to a growing mass of consumers with dietary restrictions, diabetics, children with food allergies and people who simply have reservations about the default ingredients that go into the majority of sweet treats today.

Every day our dogs remind us to appreciate life. From snuggling to playing to barking at unseen intruders, they approach each task with the same joy and enthusiasm as the time before, reminding us to forget that never-ending to-do list, and enjoy today! Vivacious and full of life, there’s nothing we want more as dog owners than to help them stay that way (although sometimes I wish they were just a little less enthusiastic about my shoes). One way to keep them healthy is through diet. It’s easier than you think to have them eating well, even if you’re short on time.

DENNYS

Never mind bald eagles, baseball, apple pie, and red, white, and blue. That stuff isn't America, Denny's is America. Oreo pancake balls, Bacon Slamburgers, The Grand Slamwich, and Moons Over My Hammy - God bless America! Denny's menu should be our country's flag, not those wussy stars and stripes.

Red Wine Talk: Gimme Some Gamay
Juicy Spirits

gamay

Gamay Noir is one of Europe's great red wine grapes, but it hasn't made the same inroads in North America that its cousins, such as Merlot, have enjoyed – yet. One place it's breaking ground is in Oregon's Willamette Valley, which isn't as famous as Napa or Sonoma – yet. We think both the variety and the region need to be on your radar ASAP.

Post-Party Stain Removing Guide
Sanctuary

Wine Stain

Pre-party; my home sparkles with magnificence. From the floor to the furniture, it gets a complete scrub down, and everything is put fabulously in its place. It’s at those times that I am most proud of the little sanctuary we have built for ourselves. Not too shabby!

Unfortunately, right after a party, our home is often in shambles. Our carpet is soiled with dirt that guests tracked in. The sofa has a brand new stain of indeterminate source. And of course, the dishes are piled high. So the cleaning begins, again!

Un-Paper Towels - Eco-Friendly

I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the look out for original décor. When I head to the store, everything just seems generic or like I’ve already seen it at a friend’s home. That’s why I love Etsy. Everything there is one-of-a-kind. If you haven’t check it out yet, head over there now. You can thank me later. It’s sort of like eBay -- but for handmade goods only. Many of the artists on the site are eco-conscious, so I thought I’d highlight a few of the stylish yet useful things available for your kitchen.

Chocolate Milk Getting Expelled from Schools
Foodie Buzz

ChocolateMilk

Think back to grade school. Remember cafeteria food? What were the usual suspects? Most likely churros, mini cartons of chocolate milk, that “fruit” juice in a plastic cup with the foil lid, ice cream-scooped mashed potatoes, and defrosted squares of bland pizza. Oh, and for the weird kids, paste.

But now, as school officials struggle to be proactive against the childhood obesity epidemic, chocolate milk is being kicked out of schools.

We hate to say it; but there is far more to eco-eating than simply organic. Organic is wonderful and certainly always a step in the conscientious direction, but food is a complicated matter indeed. The food system is responsible for 1/3 of all greenhouse gas emissions, the US food system alone contributing 5% of all global emissions, which, as we all know, causes global warming (excuse us, global climate change).

Kombucha? Didn't he fight Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania in the 80s? Actually, Kombucha isn't a luchador. Kombucha is fermented tea, historically drank in Russia, China, and Japan, and believed to have healing properties. So it's no surprise that Kombuca is becoming a popular item in health food stores.
