Drake Says He Doesn’t Eat Meat Anymore and Here’s Why That’s Huge

Rapper Drake announced recently he doesn’t eat meat anymore.

The Grammy winner confirmed his new diet during a live stream on the gaming platform Twitch earlier this month. Drake, who’s also an avid gamer, was battling popular Twitch personality Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins in the platform’s most-watched bout ever. When the topic turned to food, particularly pizza, Drake couldn’t help but chime in.

“Chicken and pineapple on pizza could work – but I don’t eat meat anymore,” he said.

His confirmation follows speculation on whether or not the singer is a vegan after a post on Instagram suggested he may be vegan.

Since the news broke, fans couldn’t help but think that perhaps Beyoncé played a role in Drake’s newfound vegan diet. After all, Beyoncé, who’s also a long-time collaborator of Drake’s, recently announced she too adopted a plant-based diet — for at least 44 days anyway — as she prepares for her upcoming performance at Coachella.

Although it’s kind of fun to imagine Bey and Drake swapping avo toast recipes with one another, ultimately, it doesn’t matter who influenced Drake to make the switch. Just the fact that he did is huge.

The hip-hop singer is one of the biggest names in the biz with one of the most loyal fanbases going. So much so that Drake’s vegan “outing” inspired a slew of his fans to announce on Twitter that if he’s vegan, then they’re making the switch too — just as Bey’s fans did when she announced her latest vegan diet.

Drake is the latest star to join the V-Gang. DJ Khaled, RZA, Common, Andre 3000, and will.i.am, are, or were, dedicated to plant-based eating.

There are many benefits of switching to a vegan diet. Studies have shown that those who eat a plant-based diet will most definitely lose weight (hello Beyoncé!) as well as experience an increased metabolism. Not to mention veganism reduces your carbon footprint and prevents animal abuse.

Although, technically, if Drake is now a vegan then he might want to heed PETA’s advice and end his partnership with Canada Goose.

There’s no word on how long Drake has been eating vegan but could his 2017 song, “Passionfruit,” actually have been less about Rihanna and more about his relationship with plants? Hmm…
