Notify dry cleaners ahead of time of any preexisting tears or damage. Otherwise, they might not clean your garment for fear you’ll think they caused the damage.

If you’re comfortable with the DIY approach, go for it! Follow recipes carefully so you avoid mixing incompatible ingredients.
If you’re not the DIY type, switch from mainstream to eco-friendly products.
