When children become fat it is essentially because they are eating salty food. Children are especially vulnerable to salt because of their small size and small blood volume, and because their blood vessels are weaker than those of adults. Salt, and the water it attracts to it, can more easily distend weak blood vessels than fully mature ones. The resulting increase in blood volume and other fluid retention results in weight gain, as well as higher blood pressure and many other undesirable consequences. The smaller the child, the less salt they should have - and a baby, of course, should have no salt at all

People have long believed the mind and body are separate and that the functions of the mind are superior to those of the body. That's why schools are eliminating recess and physical education in favor of more "academics." Maybe now that there's proof showing obese children miss more school, it'll give the policymakers pause. After all, if recess and PE can help reduce obesity, it might help keep kids in school!

Oh, what was I thinking? There's already research showing that children who are more physically active have greater academic performance and a better attitude toward school. And the policymakers have done an excellent job of ignoring that...

As someone that is in the field of teaching as well as into organics I have noticed that most of the children with obesity are under privaliged. Not all, but most. So it sets the tone for the blog you posted. If the families cant afford to purchase better foods they have no way to prevent the intake of sugars, additives... all things bad for the human lifestyle. It has turned since the days of the rich fat cat. Anyway I feel the answer lies deeper than focusing on schools it starts In the home. But that has always been an issue in the school system, how do you help in the home of your students. Its tuff. Good post.
