Most are laden with toxic substances, such as sulfates on grapes, pesticides . . . many times fruits and vegetables are imported from foreign countries that use toxic pesticides that are illegal in the United States."

Socks for Sniffles

January 7th, 2009 - Barbara Feiner

If you happen to catch a cold, get some relief with this tip from Ronald L. Stram, MD, founder of the Center for Integrative Health and Healing in Delmar, NY.

In an interview with Natural Health magazine, Dr. Stram recommends wearing wet socks to bed, as follows:

  1. Soak a pair of ankle socks in cold water.
  2. Wring them out.
  3. Soak your feet in hot water for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Put the wet socks on your feet.
  5. Cover the wet socks with a pair of dry heavy socks.

Your body temperature will heat the socks, directing blood toward the feet and reducing fever and congestion, Dr. Stram explains. He recommends a 3-day course of “sock therapy” for cold sufferers.

My mom used to lower our tempterature with the same trick but instead of the water, she used vodka. The fever was gone right in an hour! I still remember how nice the cold vodka-socks felt on my hot feet.
