When you think power, you probably DON’T think algae! But, believe it or not, algae—and its 50% oil content—is being considered as the next JET fuel. Experimentation is currently underway to convert the green sludge into renewable energy; Scientific America reports.

Now, there is a DOWNSIDE to algae too, and not just Soylent Green, scientists have determined that harmful algae blooms are creating “dead zones” in marine ecosystems.
