Thanks for a great roundup. I appreciated Sally Kneidel’s post on Veggie Revolution about the dilemma of rural South Africans dealing with restrictions on firewood. I read about a safari camp near Kruger called Umlani Bushcamp that employs villagers from Welverdiend, and runs a leadership program for the youth of the village (it’s associated with the Wildlife College), where young people can learn about environmental issues and ecotourism management. It’s a small camp (only 16 guests at a time) where you stay in thatched huts without electricity and have a good chance of seeing the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino:
