Organic Produce: March Report

March 9th, 2009 - Barbara Feiner

You’ll make the most nutritious–and delicious—produce choices when you buy locally grown organic fruits and vegetables that are in season. It’s also the most economical way to shop the produce aisle.

So, what’s in season this month?

Here are the CDC’s top choices for March:

  • Apples
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Lettuce
  • Mushrooms
  • Oranges
  • Onions
  • Pears

Be sure to eat fresh fruits and vegetables within a few days of purchase.

To save time and encourage healthful snacking, chop some fruits and vegetables, and place them in storage containers. Keep them in the fridge so they’re ready to eat.

  1. Thanks! I love all of those (ok, not crazy about raw onions, but the rest – yummy!!!)
