The above is the story of my life! Although, in my case, it was my grandmother who cooked the sprouts. (My mother went to high school in the 1950s, when Home Ec had turned away from the cook-vegetables-until-the-water-runs-green school, so we always had veggies prepared just right.) She bought them fresh, but boiled them until they were limp. They tasted awful, awful, awful!

I stayed away from them until I was an adult, but wanted more cruciferous vegetables for the reasons noted here. I bought them fresh, roasted them in the oven with some salt and olive oil, and served them to amazed Thanksgiving guests who could not believe these were Brussels sprouts! I guarantee anyone traumatized by Brussels sprouts as a kid that, if you give them a second chance, and don’t overcook them, you’ll love them!
