Reminds me of the debate I have with some of my raw food friends about what is better organic or regular, when I am just trying to convince someone to eat more vegetables and less meat.

What makes you think that industry is not interested in selling 100% safe food? When one spinach outbreak occurs, people every where stop eating all spinach no matter where it came from. Everyone loses, especially industry. Growers go out of business. This distrust of "the industry" is very misguided and predjudiced. Cornucopia also does not use the correct definition of "marketing" in the leafy green marketing agreement. In this context, marketing means bringing a product 'to market," it doesn't mean "promoting a product. Marketing agreements under the USDA are concerned with product quality, and microbial contamination is definitely a food quality issue. Also, just because a product is organic, doesn't mean it is free of microbes!
