kas, please see your internist to rule out hormonal abnormalities (i.e., thyroid). Have all of your reproductive hormones tested, as you're likely in menopause, and our bodies can go nuts.

Antidepressants are effective, but it takes a while to find the right one -- and it can be extremely frustrating. You often have to take a specific drug for 6-8 weeks, only to find it doesn't help. Then, the doctor needs to prescribe something else to see what clicks with your brain. Depression is a physical, brain-based illness that involves neurotransmitters like dopamine, seratonin and norepinephrine, so please don't give up. Studies show antidepressants, combined with talk therapy, are most effective in treating depression.

Eat and sleep well. Don't let yourself get too tired. Put good food in your body, and continue working with your doctor. If you have any doubts about your treatment, get a second opinion.

Best,

EMOTIONALLY NUMB. For over a year now, my emotions have virtually dissipated. I just feel blank.

Most recently, I followed up with a registered psychiatrist. Starting in the late spring of 2008 we tried a couple of different meds for anxiety. The last script was Pristiq, along with Stratera for ADD. I relinquieshed the meds at the end of 2008 as I felt minimul improvements. And for me, the Statera was not user friendly. The doctor's diagnosis is chronic depression. With that, we decided to try Lexapro (again) to be accompanied by Deplin. Also, he explained that as we age our emtions "fall off".

I recently started on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy in hopes that getting my hormones in balance would help with these symtoms and get a sense of well being re-established.

I am 53 years young. Putting a smile on my face and feeling it from my head to my toes has always been a part of who I am and how I feel....a given. Now I have to force that smile with no firing of emotions. I am 53 years young and determined to get reconnected with life.

Please.... help!!!
