Global attention to food waste has illuminated a major problem with the world's food supply: more than 40 percent of the world's food is ending up in landfills instead of being routed to people who desperately need it. Efforts are underway to decrease food waste—from the urban dumpster diver to international campaigns and policies—and a new discovery may help supermarkets reduce their massive amounts of wasted food. The answer is as simple as changing a light bulb. Literally. LED lights may keep food fresher, cites new research.

If eating organic carrots while everyone else around you is gorging themselves on Cheetos ever makes you feel incredibly lonely, there may be hope. OrganicMatch.com is a brand new dating service for "certified organic people" who love the organic lifestyle and want to meet someone with similar values (we're guessing the most common first-date meeting spot is somewhere inside a Whole Foods Market?).

Revolutionary technology may soon be available to help prevent the alarming amount food we waste. Intelleflex, a California technology company, has recently announced the development of a system employing RFID chips and GPS technology that could help gauge temperature, location and time data of food in order to reduce the number of spoils and losses.

With a message that our nation's wealthiest one percent—largely the banking industry and corporations—are inappropriately managing their wealth and adversely affecting the other 99 percent of Americans, the Occupy Wall Street movement is now entering its fourth week of protests in New York City's financial district. But eschewing corporations is virtually impossible, especially as it pertains to food, bringing a new dimension to the growing Occupy movement as it spreads across the nation.
