" . . . The quality of the fruits and vegetables available at grocery stores is terrible. Most are laden with toxic substances, such as sulfates on grapes, pesticides . . . many times fruits and vegetables are imported from foreign countries that use toxic pesticides that are illegal in the United States."

Real patriots drive Hummers – more “real American” blah, blah, blah

September 29th, 2009 - Gerald "Gerry" Pugliese

HUMMERUnless you’re transporting soldiers down the streets of Baghdad, there is no reason to drive a hummer, period.

Whether you take the global warming argument or not, just look around, the whole world is preaching fuel efficiency.

And what’s wrong with that! It is almost 2010, if we can’t have flying cars yet, let’s at least have super efficient vehicles.

But not everyone agrees. A new study shows some Americans cry patriotism and tout it’s their right to drive an abomination.

Hummer drivers say they are defending America’s frontier lifestyle. So all those housewives from the suburbs, blinged out rappers in Los Angeles, and well-groomed businessmen in New York City, are frontier people? Yee hah!

Writing in the Journal of Consumer Research, researchers found American Hummer owners claim a moral high ground, insisting they represent patriots who stand up against all the anti-American discourse.

Hummer owners feel it is their right to over-consume and have adopted the role of “moral protagonist” and defend traditional American values.

So can’t you also make the same argument that segregation, “Irish need not apply,” and child labor, are “traditional” values too? Dumbest argument ever!

Improve Your Gas Mileage…

January 22nd, 2009 - Gerald "Gerry" Pugliese

yikespumpLuckily gas prices are on the down. But let’s face it. It won’t last! By the time summer rolls around, fuel prices will be way up again.

So, instead of pulling a Cheech and Chong and siphoning out someone else’s gas into a trash can, try these easy tips for boosting gas mileage:

  • Drive under the speed limit. Keep it under 60mph.
  • Properly inflated tires can improve mileage by 3%
  • Use right the fuel. Check your owner’s manual.
  • Keep up with maintenance. Get tune ups and oil changes.
  • Lose weight. Have less bodyweight to lug around.
  • Cut wind resistance. Remove luggage racks.
  • Tighten your gas cap. Don’t let gas vapors escape.
  • Don’t sit idle. Turn off your car in gridlock.
  • Map out your trip. Plan a shorter route.
  • Don’t run the air conditioning and park in shade.

You could probably add to that list. Try walking or bike riding more or taking public transportation—if you dare—like buses, subways and trains.

In related news, if you think the U.S. gets hammered with gas prices. Be glad you don’t live in the Netherlands, where gas prices can top $9.97 a gallon. Eek!

Powering Cars with Human Fat!

January 2nd, 2009 - Gerald "Gerry" Pugliese

Okay, going green can get pretty creative, like making plastic out of wood or building a Buddhist temple with beer bottles. But using liposuctioned fat to fuel your girlfriend’s SUV is downright gross!

That’s exactly what one Beverly Hills liposurgeon did. And, he says most of his patients actually requested he use their sucked out fat for fuel, or as he calls it, lipodiesel.

Yes, its very disgusting, but apparently animal fat, like pig lard and human lard, is just as good as vegetable fat for making fuel. The only difference being animal fat requires one extra processing step to remove certain fatty acids.

But unfortunately for this would-be fuel mogul, using human medical waste as fuel is illegal in California. Even still, his operation was running smoothly until several patients sued him for allowing his unlicensed girl friend and assistant to perform liposuctions, in which patients claim to much fat was removed, leaving them permanently disfigured.

He’s since closed his practice and now volunteers in South America. Maybe that’s where the real fat gold lies—chubbling crude!
