Thirty pregnant women participating in a project by the People's Community Clinic in Austin, Texas are receiving prescriptions for fresh fruits and vegetables from their physicians as part of a regional group effort to improve the health of pregnant women from lower income communities.

A recent study published in the journal Environmental Health Sciences found that pregnant women who live in urban areas with more grass and trees surrounding their homes, were less at risk of exposure to harmful environmental pollutants than women with less plant life in their immediate area.

A recent study conducted by independent physicians at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Sherbrooke Hospital Centre in Quebec, Canada found traces of toxic chemicals from genetically modified organisms in 93 percent of pregnant women and in 80 percent of umbilical cords tested.
