The battle to get genetically modified foods labeled is not going away, even despite Proposition 37's failure in California earlier this month. Focus is now routing back to federal regulations with the Just Label It campaign urging the FDA to take action. The latest support for the campaign comes via an all-star cast of celebs and musicians making the case in a recent Just Label It video.

In the last stretch of the race to pass Proposition 37, which would require labeling of foods containing genetically modified organisms in California, several big new players have stepped up to endorse and financially support the effort to pass the measure.

The founder and CEO of the world’s leading organic yogurt company, Stonyfield Farms, announced that he has stepped down from the company he founded and will be focusing instead on food regulatory issues, came along with the news that he has co-authored a consumer guide e-book designed to help Americans better understand genetically modified foods.

In an effort to raise awareness on the benefits of growing and eating organic foods, or perhaps just for his love of the absurd, Stonyfield Yogurt founder and CE-Yo Gary Hirschberg created and stars in a mock rap music video, "Just Eat Organic."

The FDA is expected to approve the first genetically modified (GM) food animal for human consumption in the U.S. in the very near future, but that hasn't stopped Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Mark Begich (D-AK) from reintroducing a bill to ban the controversial GM salmon.

In a surprising move, three well known organic brands gave a supportive nod to what they're calling "the conditional deregulation" of genetically modified (GM) alfalfa. The nation's first certified organic retail chain, Whole Foods—who has a storewide policy banning the sale of GM foods—along with the largest organic yogurt brand, Stonyfield Yogurt, and Organic Valley, the largest co-op of organic meat, egg and dairy farmers issued their formal support in lifting restrictions on growing GM alfalfa.
