All over film, television and certainly on the streets of Los Angeles is the fake bake, the alien-esque orange glow of the spray tan. Touted as the safer alternative to baking in the sunshine for 10 hours a day (which it certainly is), spray tanning is getting more popular by the day.
Spray tanner works, but what causes this swift skin transformation? Is spray tanner a topical dye or stain? A harmful chemical? A paint made from carrot juice? Is spray tanner safe? Let's find out.

You drag yourself out of bed and head to the mirror. Even though you washed your hair yesterday, the roots have gone to the dark (a.k.a. greasy) side. Immediately you regret hitting the snooze button two (three? four?) times. Now, there’s no time for shampooing, conditioning, drying, styling and the all around primping that comes with getting your tresses to shiny, soft perfection. The clock is counting down and you have 10 minutes to get ready. Period. But how are you going to get that hot mess of your hair looking acceptable—and fast?
Sometimes you just need a quick fix. Dry shampoo should be your go-to lifesaver when you don’t have time to wash your hair. It removes oil and griminess (no water needed) from your locks, leaving them oh-so soft.

Whether hot yoga, hot workouts or hot weather, for a lot of us, sweaty skin means one thing: Breakouts. And not just those average zits. These ones come in unsightly places like the back and shoulders and even the chest, as well as along your hairline or where your sunglasses lay on your nose. Not exactly convenient as we shed our winter layers and throw our hair back to celebrate this lovely time of year.

For all of the time we may end up applying magical potions and secret lotions to our ever-hopeful and eternally moisturized epidermal layers, the inevitable fine lines, dry skin, uneven pigmentation, wrinkles and crow’s feet will still somehow manage to rear their collectively ugly head(s) on the one calling card that the world sees in full view 365 days a year. It may not seem fair – and it may even seem kind of crummy when we work so hard leading an organically righteous lifestyle – but it is what it is.

Charles Darwin was the first scientist to identify the necessity of earthworms—citing that every living thing on Earth once passed through the digestive system of an earthworm. Whether they give you the willies or not, they're some of the cleanest creatures on the planet, and a new skincare product says worm castings (a.k.a. worm poo!) are actually beneficial in an entirely bizarre way... they do wonders for your skin. Seriously.

Glossy fashion ads, movie billboards and magazine covers feature our cultural icons at their very best – with seemingly flawless skin, enviably toned bodies and most importantly, superstar, high-wattage smiles – because it’s easy on the eyes and the entire powerhouse package helps sell whatever product is being hawked. Even if we pride ourselves on resisting superficiality, in all honesty, none of us would ever want to find out the real truth behind Victoria’s Secret if her posse of pouty beauties sported gnarly yellow teeth.

What the ancient science of life - Ayurveda - teaches us is that we can heal ourselves by first understanding ourselves. Seems simple enough, yet it can remain foreign to our western minds. In a culture addicted to the quick fix, we rarely take the time to understand our bodies and the root of what ails us. We want to look younger and feel better, and sell me the pill or cream that will do it.

I'm a self-professed hippie: I buy organic foods for myself and my family. My kids rarely eat junk food. I get acupuncture. Go to yoga. But since I've turned 40, and since that deep crease between my eyebrows is no longer a cute crinkle, like the kind of crinkle I used to make when looking at someone like they’re nuts, I must say... I’ve thought about getting Botox.

Since the ancient Egyptians, we've been creating the illusion of dark, sultry eye lashes. There's nothing quite like the pop mascara provides to make already mysterious, gorgeous eyes even more so. But what mascara can contain nowadays tends to put a damper on things: You'll find paraffin, mineral oil, lanolin, linseed oil, castor oil, oil of turpentine, stearic acid, ceresin, gum tragacanth and methyl cellulose - among other chemicals - gracing the ingredient lists of many conventional mascaras. Who wants that getting in their eyes... anyone?

We’ve all done some things in our youth that perhaps we’re not particularly proud of, some of which might even deserve to be classified as incredibly stupid. Worshipping the sun to such an extreme degree that basting our delicate flesh like a Butterball turkey – using the double-trouble team work of baby oil and an aluminum foil backdrop – certainly earns a place at the top of the parental eyeball roll totem pole.
