DIY Foot Soak for Runner’s Sore, Aching and Cramped Feet

toes

Running makes for an excellent cardiovascular activity, but if you are new to it, wear uncomfortable shoes, or simply run a lot, your feet can pay the price. Blisters, aches, pains, sores and cramps can plague your feet from time to time. But instead of “running it out” give your feet the much needed TLC and pampering they deserve. The following DIY foot soak recipe is fit for anyone who experiences any kind of foot pain or soreness, but it is especially helpful for runners and athletes.

The three ingredients needed to make this foot soak recipe work together to soothe your senses, relax your muscles, exfoliate and tone your skin and flush out lactic acid from your muscles, relieving pain.

Lavender oil contains soothing properties that will benefit your toes in more ways than one. Simply by inhaling the scent of lavender, you can lower blood pressure, heart rate and skin temperature. Meanwhile, it is also effective in treating pain, infections, burns and spasms. Epsom salts are a popular remedy for body soreness and muscle aches and pains. The main component of Epsom salt is magnesium, a mineral that helps relax skeletal muscles by flushing lactic acid build up in the muscles, which can occur after a tough workout or run. It also helps to exfoliate the skin, removing dead skin cells. The lemon in this recipe offers a cooling effect and also acts a highly-alkaline tonic for your feet.
