What is Halloween if not an opportunity to visit the dark side? And here at Organic Authority we say the creativity shouldn’t stop at the décor and costumes. Let your food be your creepy expression, and deliciously so! Look for ways to make your favorite party platters jump out this year. For instance, use cookie cutters to make sandwiches more fun. Or add sinister names for each item, natural food dye, or a decorative dish. There are countless ways to add a little Halloween splash to your party. Here are a few bone-chilling dishes to consider adding to the menu.
Instead of carving a pumpkin, carve a navel orange rind for a cute and tasty treat!
Slice the top off a navel orange.
Scoop out the orange segments, so you are left with a hollow rind.
Mix the orange segments in with your fruit salad.
Carve a spooky face into one side of each orange.
Fill the mini Jack-O-Lantern with your fruit salad.
Put the lid back on, and serve!
Halloween Deviled Eggs
The original already has a spooky name, but add a twist to make it more fun!
6 pimiento-stuffed green olives
red food dye
blue food dye
1/2 stalk celery, finely chopped
1/4 onion, finely chopped
1/4 cup organic mayonnaise
salt to taste
1 dash hot pepper sauce
Hard-boil the eggs, remove the shells, then rinse and dry.
Cut the eggs in half. Gently remove the yolks and place in a bowl.
Mix together with the celery, onion, mayo, salt, and hot pepper sauce.
Add a little blue food dye to make the mixture a creepy green.
Fill the egg white halves with the egg yolk mixture.
Push a green olive into the center of each egg, with the pimiento facing up.
Dip a toothpick into red food dye, and use it to draw “capillaries” for your eyeball.
Chill covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
Okay, it’s not spooky, but it’s really neat and yummy!
1 small pumpkin
2 tablespoons butter, softened
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch ground cinnamon
Prepare the pumpkin like you would if you were carving it.
Remove all the guts and seeds, and clean it out well.
Combine the butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
Coat the inside of the pumpkin with this mixture.
Put the top back on the pumpkin, and place it on a baking sheet.
Bake it at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes until it is softened.
Prepare your favorite cheese fondue recipe and pour it inside.
Serve bread, green apple slices, and carrots.
