From Our Friends: December 20, 2013

Welcome to this week’s installment of From Our Friends, a weekly roundup where we highlight some of our favorite posts, published by our friends and partners around the web. This week’s edition includes a sit down with the new co-ed naked yoga studio founders, some insight into the declining consumption of diet soda, adorable and practical last-minute stocking stuffers, savory seasonal side dishes to complete your Christmas dinner menu, a feature about the benefits of functional medicine, an easy way to contribute to our planet with your online purchases, and a discussion about how Beyoncé’s unfortunate foray into veganism didn’t disinclude her fur collection. Enjoy!

1.  Lotus pose without any clothes? WellandGoodNYC chatted with the former Le Male studio, newly known as Bold & Naked Yoga, who will now offer a full schedule of no-clothes classes in 2014, including men’s, women’s, and co-ed. It’s another good reason to never buy any Lululemon gear again, but how will yogis feel about downward facing dog with their bodies–and everyone else–unleashed?

2. Diet soda sales fell by nearly 7 percent in the past year, while full sugar soda sales dropped as well, but only by 2 percent. What gives? BlissTree shares the skinny on how folks are finally wising up about the gunk in diet gulps!
3.  Still need stocking stuffers? MightyNest has you covered with dozens of great last-minute finds that are adorable and mindful, playful but practical.
4.  Now is the perfect time to finalize your Christmas dinner menu! Yogi Times shared a wonderful array of delicious side dishes, sure to please. Try their tantalizing Watercress Soup or gorgeous Orange and Ginger Cranberry Sauce.
5.  Conventional medicine is the medicine of what — what disease do you have? What drug should I give you? Functional medicine considers the diagnosis, of course, but it also seeks to answer the question why. Experience Life Magazine shares an eye-opening look at functional medicine and how it benefits us to treat the cause and not just the symptoms.

5. The Organic Whey wants to make a difference, and is proud to contribute 1% of its sales to 1% for the Planet. Look for their logo when you shop, and consider membership for your company!

6. Fashion is, more often than not, excessive and indulgent, just like food. Deliciously decadent diva Beyoncé may have had her heart in the right place when she decided to flirt with veganism, but her kindness didn’t include her wardrobe and the star was spotted repeatedly donning leather and fur fashions at vegan restaurants. Was her faux pas a minor misstep or a growing problem among self-proclaimed vegans?  Ecosalon discusses.
