DIY: In the Deep... Conditioner

winter hair

Last week I reached back, perhaps to run my fingers through some luscious locks, and to my horror I found a blob of hair, practically a single dread of damaged hair congealed into a knotty disaster. I'm not sure if it's the brisk air, the hotter showers or the now humming heater - most likely a combo - but fall-into-winter has her way with my hair. And while I'm not likely to advocate eating mayo (ever!), this DIY recipe for a Deep Conditioner helped me get things under control. And it could do the same for you.

DIY Deep Conditioner

Ingredients

1 small jar of real mayonnaise
1/2 of an avocado
Shower cap
Towel

Method

Combine the mayo and avo in a medium bowl and squish together with your hands until it's a smooth consistency and minty green color.

Apply the treatment to your hair. For long hair, you may want to double the recipe. I recommend loading up the ends with this stuff and going lighter on the roots. In fact, if you have super long hair, you could only apply to the roots. Saturate the places that need it most!

Put on a shower cap or wrap your head in a towel (a little messier).

Leave on for 20 minutes. For deeper conditioning put a hot, damp towel around your head (you can throw a damp towel in the dryer to get it warm).

Rinse.
