Homemade face paint recipe

With Halloween approaching, it’s time to sort out your children’s (and your) costumes and all their accouterments, including face paint. While it’s easy to find face paint at craft or costume stores, for the sake of your external and internal health, make a homemade face paint that is so safe to use that you can even eat it!

The following eco-friendly and non-toxic face paint recipe is the perfect base for just about every color possible. Learn how to make it in six different colors and get ready for a spooktacular yet safe Halloween!

Artificial food coloring is harmful to you and your kids; it has been linked to certain types of cancer and ADHD. For that reason, it’s best to turn to fruits and veggies for pigmentation–plus these are super easy colors you can make with fruits or veggies that are about to turn, so you’re cutting down on food waste as well.

  1. Raspberry (1/2 cup, blended and strained) for red
  2. Mango (1/2 cup, blended and strained) for yellow
  3. Blackberry (1/2 cup, blended and strained) for purple
  4. Carrot (1/2 cup, juiced) for orange
  5. Spinach leaves (1 cup, juiced) for green
  6. Red cabbage (1/2 cup, juiced and mixed with 1 teaspoon baking soda) for blue

Set these aside while you prepare the face paint base. You can store them in the fridge until they are ready to use.
