Looking for a festive, fancy holiday drink that the whole family can enjoy -- or just a fun indulgence that isn't intoxicating or over-sweet? Try this naturally-sweetened apple-ginger sparkler, laced with warming spices and bursting with bubbles. It'll fill your house with the aroma of mulled cider, but won't knock you out with sugar -- in fact, you might even feel refreshed after sipping this spicy, cool, carbonated and non-alcoholic cider.

This recipe makes about 16 drinks.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart of organic apple juice
  • 1 orange, sliced (leave the peel on)
  • 5 sticks of cinnamon
  • 1 finger length piece of ginger, sliced (leave the skin on)
  • 2 quarts of sparkling water or club soda
  • ice cubes

Method

In a medium pot, combine the apple juice, orange slices, cinnamon and ginger.

Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for half an hour. Let it cool for ten minutes.

Fill tall glasses with ice. To each glass, add 1/4 cup of apple cider and 1/2 cup of sparkling water or soda. Serve with a garnish of cinnamon sticks, orange slices or homemade crystallized ginger.
