Plastic in my lotion? Naah…impossible. Well, that’s just it – we’ve learned to trust our favorite brands, but it seems that we’ve given them far too much leeway because they continue cramming a whole bunch of funky business into products that, on the surface, seem totally beneficial. Profits have taken precedence over consumer safety and lax product guidelines have made it even easier for manufacturers to pull the wool over our eyes. While this is the current climate, we don’t have to accept it.

When my son was about five, we had our first grocery store temper tantrum over a bag of chocolate chip cookies. You’d think this would have happened much sooner in his life, but I had always managed to successfully steer him in the direction of a healthy choice like a banana first and then follow up with a tiny bag of fruit-juice sweetened animal crackers. But on this day, the healthy food planets weren’t aligned and my son wanted chocolate chip cookies now, now, now, now. “We have chocolate chip cookies at home,” I told him, but he was wild, like a tornado.

Elke, 2, is my adventurous eater. Breakfast is eggs with cheese. Fruits of all kinds. Pancakes with blueberries. Scones. Breakfast burritos. Jake, 7, eats cereal. Every. Single. Morning. No joke. Our top two are Cheerios and Organic Clifford Crunch. No milk. Dry. Three grapes or a slice of apple.
My guilt about his breakfast has become more overwhelming since having a daughter who will eat anything—specifically, anything healthy. I know it could be worse. (Can anyone say Fruit Loops?) But even with all of the packed-in nutrients of his cereal choices, it's simply not enough.
Sick of drowning in our bad breakfast morning habits, I turned to friend Charity Curley Mathews, who successfully feeds her toddler, Phoebe, organic, healthy food—and blogs about it on her yummy-inspired website, Foodlets.com.

My son is the pickiest eater on the planet. I know your child is picky too, but don't fight me on this because my son is even pickier. Promise.
Here's a good example about his quasi-relationship with vegetables. He considers six peas his vegetable serving for the day. He wipes the dressing off a tiny piece of spinach with a paper towel and then chews it in his mouth for 10 minutes before painfully, and dramatically swallowing it. He chokes when I ask him try cauliflower smothered in cheese.

While still pregnant, an environmentalist friend of mine announced that she was going to skip diapers altogether and go straight to communicating with her baby about going to the bathroom on the toilet. Say, wha?

Helping out around the house is a normal part of being in a family. And for preschoolers, getting to help like the grown-ups do can seem as wonderful as a trip to the toy store. Unfortunately, what's tough for most parents is finding stuff that a preschooler can do without creating a bigger mess or requiring constant help.
Here are fifteen ways you can let your preschooler get involved in doing regular chores. Remember, you'll need to do a little initial training; show and explain, in simple terms, how to do a chore several times, and be available to help. Your preschooler will catch on quickly. Be sure to give lots of praise when they do it all be themselves.
