Venti Caramel Machhiato anyone? We'll pass, opt instead for a freshly pressed beverage that’s packed with fruits, veggies and all those vitamins and minerals that keep us thriving through the day (not the sugar and caffeine that have us slumped over come lunchtime). As the local food scene bourgeons, one man takes the concept to completely new heights. Chef John Mooney is one of the few notable chefs in NYC that doesn’t get most of his produce from the local farmers’ market. For what felt like aeons, food on Venice Beach's boardwalk have consisted almost entirely of greasy fish and chips, sidewalk corn dogs and slices of dollar pizza with fake cheese. If you wanted a decent meal, well, Santa Monica is just a few miles up.

One word comes to mind when someone mentions airplane food: blech! Thankfully most airlines have cut back on serving meals so more travelers are picking up food to take with them on the plane. Up until now, most of those food options consisted of fast food and whatever Starbucks has wrapped up. Now New Yorkers and travelers alike can take a gourmet taste of the Big Apple when traveling out of La Guardia thanks to their new upscale eateries that serve natural, local, and organic grub.

Osteria Mamma may be located in Hollywood, California, but nothing about it fits the glitzy neighborhood's stereotype amongst Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. The restaurant is quiet, cozy, and at press time doesn't even have a wine license. And the food doesn't aim for fusion or cutting edge: it's straight forward Italian food, generally inspired by the northern regions, and it's prepared with gusto.
