Thanksgiving Pies

Everyone knows the general history of Thanksgiving dinner: the Wampanoag tribe of Native Americans helped the pilgrims at Plymouth survive their first year in the New World, and they all celebrated together in the Autumn of 1621 with a holiday feast.

But do you know the history of the Thanksgiving dishes themselves? Why do we eat sweet potatoes and not French fries? Pumpkin pie instead of strawberry shortcake? Cranberry sauce instead of cherry marmalade?

Would You Drink Recycled Pee?

You might already be and not know it. Don’t worry, it’s highly filtered and treated. What many people may not realize is that water is a finite resource … meaning we could run out of it. Scary. So in some places like Orange County where fresh water is lacking due to a drought, they began to recycle the waste water. Yep, the same stuff that is flushed down your toilet.

Let me guess, you have an inner-Martha-Stewart, but for the life of you, you just can't remember where you put her. (Hint: she's probably hiding somewhere between Superwife/girlfriend, Superemployee and/or Supermom.)

Pumpkin on leaves
We all know and love the pumpkin pie and it's goofy cousin the jack-o-lantern, but the veritable pumpkin can be used for all sorts of fun during the fall season.

Native to the Americas, the pumpkin is an apt representation of the harvest: big, beautiful and round. Actually a member of the squash family and therefore a fruit, pumpkins of all shapes and sizes can be found across the nation this time of year tumbling out of grocery stores, baking in almost every kitchen and resting on front stoops from New England to Newport Beach.

Post-Party Stain Removing Guide

Wine Stain

Pre-party; my home sparkles with magnificence. From the floor to the furniture, it gets a complete scrub down, and everything is put fabulously in its place. It’s at those times that I am most proud of the little sanctuary we have built for ourselves. Not too shabby!

Unfortunately, right after a party, our home is often in shambles. Our carpet is soiled with dirt that guests tracked in. The sofa has a brand new stain of indeterminate source. And of course, the dishes are piled high. So the cleaning begins, again!

Un-Paper Towels - Eco-Friendly

I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the look out for original décor. When I head to the store, everything just seems generic or like I’ve already seen it at a friend’s home. That’s why I love Etsy. Everything there is one-of-a-kind. If you haven’t check it out yet, head over there now. You can thank me later. It’s sort of like eBay -- but for handmade goods only. Many of the artists on the site are eco-conscious, so I thought I’d highlight a few of the stylish yet useful things available for your kitchen.
