Not only will your kids love them, but you can switch up the add-ins from week to week to keep their attention and prevent them from turning to junk food for their hunger fix. Try this quick, easy, and healthy homemade granola bar recipe that will please the whole family, including the kids.

These homemade granola bars are a healthier snack than store-bought brands, mainly because they are free of any additives or sweeteners that override the benefits offered by fiber-rich oats, the healthy fats of nuts and seeds, and the antioxidants and nutrients from dried fruit. Coconut palm sugar has a low-glycemic index, so it doesn’t send blood-sugar levels soaring. The cinnamon, vanilla extract, and almond extract lend a lovely aroma and flavor. Enjoy all summer long!

Homemade Granola Bar Recipe

Makes about 15 bars

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 cup coconut palm sugar
  • ½ cup whole-wheat flour
  • ½ cup spelt flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • Up to 1 cup of chopped dried fruits, nuts, seeds
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Mix all the ingredients together and pat it into an 11×13 pan greased lightly with coconut oil. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. Remove from the oven and let cool. Cut into bars and store in airtight containers or bags.
