A new study has revealed that women love pizza more than men (do), leaving men in a state of shock and women in a state of… well, nothing, since we already knew this to be true. Only now there’s proof, so we finally get to enjoy rubbing it everyone’s faces.
The study was conducted by Smart Flour Foods and the Center for Generational Kinetics, and looked at surveys filled out by 1,004 adults classified as “pizza lovers.” (They were identified as such based on their practice of ordering pizza from restaurants or buying frozen pizza every month.)
Not surprisingly (you know, to women), 63 percent of all pizza lovers were female, with 41 percent falling into the “millennial” age bracket—though, the study starts that bracket in 1977, when millennials are defined as anyone born between the early 1980s and early 2000s.
Okay, so the study isn’t perfect science, but it does break a few stereotypes: For example, hardcore pizza lovers are typically thought of as being exercise-loathing, cooking-challenged, couch potatoes (or college students), but pizza lovers are in fact health conscious individuals: 68 percent of those surveyed reported exercising at least twice a week.
The study also found that to this group, natural ingredients and gluten-free options are very important, with 60 percent of those who love pizza looking to avoid products with synthetic hormones, high fructose corn syrup, trans fat, and artificial preservatives.
Great news for Smart Flour Foods, whose lines of premium and conventional pizzas cater more to what consumers are looking for—gluten-free, natural ingredients, and free of artificial preservatives and synthetic hormones—potentially giving them a leg up on the competition.
Hopefully this means pizza ads will soon become less testosterone-centric and cater more to the ladies—especially considering 8 percent of pizza lovers surveyed said they’d rather go a year without sex than without pizza, and which gender do you think is most likely to dominate this percentage?
