An Oscar Green Suite

One of this year’s Oscar “Gift Suites,” or more appropriately described as a “giving suite,” featured a green, eco-friendly theme providing Academy Award nominees and presenters the opportunity to give to several notable charities, including Global Green, So the World May HHHHlkldiujjear and the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Nominees and presenters walked away with a baggie full of goods totaling an estimated $40,000. Held at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, this green swag party was a real hit.

A few of my favorite suspects made it to the party (and I am not talking about the nominees). LA – based eco-luxury mobile spa service, Green Bliss Eco Spa indulged its guests in truly natural and organic spa treatments. As natural and organic beauty product junkies, my girlfriend and I couldn’t help but treat ourselves to one of their treatments. I chose the Pure Results Organic Facial and she chose the
Therapeutic Herbal Friction Massage.

My facial consisted of a detoxifying lymphatic massage combined with some of my favorite products from the Naturopathica product line; the Chamomile Cleansing Cream, the Calming Seaweed Mask and the Geranium Serum for Mature & Damaged Skin. Each product calmed and soothed my dry skin, restoring elasticity and my sweet organic glow. If you close your eyes while applying these products, the fragrance from the pure essential oils will take you to an English garden that bustles with fragrant roses, geraniums and chamomile plants.

If you are unfamiliar with the Naturopathica holistic health line I encourage you to check them out. They are free of synthetic solvents, thickeners, and emulsifiers, and contain no petroleum-based ingredients, artificial dyes, or fragrances. Each one is fortified with therapeutic essential oils and herbs. The herbs used in the products are grown on the owner and founder’s organic herb farm in Virginia.

My girlfriend indulged in the Therapeutic Herbal Friction Massage that uses a blend of techniques. Combining Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Shiatsu massage with herbal aromatherapy oils, makes for a truly indulgent spa experience. My girlfriend said her 30 minute massage beat her two hour massage she had the day before. That’s pretty impressive.

After we finished our spa treatments we had our make-up touched up from another one of my favorites, the Jane Iredale mineral make-up line. The products are made from micronized minerals and are free of all the fillers and binders (such as talc and mineral oil) and chemical dyes or preservatives. Jan Iredale is a true leader in the cosmetic world as the first to offer a full make up line based on minerals in 1994.

My favorite nail polish was in attendance, Zoya. The toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate free nail polish is a must for any mother or woman who lives a clean green life. I use their nail polish and it works just as well as any conventional nail polish on the market.

When I discovered a new non-toxic cleaning line, Get CleanÔ, I was absolutely thrilled. You see, I am on the constant hunt for truly non-toxic cleaning lines that are people friendly and earth friendly and effective. They sent me home with their Get CleanÔ Starter kit. So I will give it a try and report back on the products claims and its effectiveness. The trick as you may know is in becoming an ingredient sleuth. And some times that means picking up the phone and calling the company to uncover the truth behind their labels. At first glance this product looks like it could be a winner. It’s biodegradable (but I always wonder how quickly a product biodegrades, in two weeks or two hundred years, there’s a big difference). And it’s free of chlorine, nitrates, phosphates, borates and volatile organic compounds. This product might be the real deal. They’ve also made a commitment to reduce consumer waste and packaging by selling concentrated products. That leaves you, the consumer, to add the water so they can deduct the waste. This has a trickle down effect, less weight means less to ship, less product to use, less packaging to throw away, which all ads up to less impact on the earth.

I was thrilled to encounter Pure-Rest Organic Bedding, makers of just about anything you need to create your own organic bedroom. They sell everything from mattresses, pillows, sheets, towels, deluxe robes and more!

Organic Purse designer Helen E. Riegle showed her wares with her eco-hip collection of purses. I spied Helen Mirren leave with one of beautiful designs.

Del Forte Organic Denim was on hand to share their luxury line of denim made exclusively from 100% organic cotton in the US.

I was also happy to discover the tasty Dogswell all natural dog treats for my two pooches, Bamboo and Truffle.

Robert Craymer’s rcgreen, the first line of 100% natural, sustainable and custom furniture was featured.

Finally there were many other merchants that I could go on about but just don’t have the time.

Global Green was founded in 1993 by activist and philanthropist Diane Meyer Simon after President Mikhail Gorbachev invited her to join his global environmental movement, Green Cross international. Global Green, a national environmental organization, addresses three of the greatest challenges facing humanity; global climate change, the elimination of weapons of mass destruction and providing clean, safe drinking water for the 2.4 billion people who lack access to clean water. Way to go Global Green!
