Father-in-Chief Joins Ranks of Concerned Parents

President Obama has added his voice to the backlash against sloppy manufacturing practices and lax FDA oversight in the wake of the ongoing salmonella outbreak tied to contaminated peanut products.

As of Thursday, 575 cases of infection were reported across 43 states.

“I think that the FDA has not been able to catch some of these things as quickly as I expect,” he told Matt Lauer in an interview that aired Monday on The Today Show. “And so we’re going to be doing a complete review of FDA operations.

“At bare minimum, we should be able to count on our government keeping our kids safe when they eat peanut butter. That’s what [younger daughter] Sasha eats for lunch probably three times a week. And, you know, I don’t want to have to worry about whether she’s going to get sick as a consequence to having her lunch.”

Obama will appoint a new FDA commissioner in the near future.
