Pet Bistro Offers Healthful, Organic, Human-Grade Cuisine

Pet Bistro, a Wayne, PA-based company specializing in organic dog food, has announced the availability of its flagship product, Chicken and Brown Rice Entree. The jarred food contains all-organic ingredients: chicken, brown rice, spinach, carrots and parsley.

Equally important is what the product doesn’t contain: no animal byproducts, soy, corn, dyes, wheat, fillers, additives, pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, toxic chemicals or artificial flavors.

Pet Bistro founder and CEO Rafaela Miett spent a decade cooking up recipes for her own pets before putting this product on the market. Her philosophy is simple: Just as human health depends on food and environmental safety, the same holds true for our four-legged family members.

“Unfortunately, there is little regulation imposed on pet food,” Miett says. “If something is not fit for human consumption, what makes us think it’s safe for our pets?”

She believes our pets have also become pickier.

“If your pet won’t eat a certain food, there’s probably a good reason,” she says. “Animals have a heightened sense of smell, which is why law enforcement relies on dogs to sniff out dangerous substances. It’s not preposterous to assume that pets might reject harmful chemicals in their food as well, such as propylene glycol—also used in automobile antifreeze—and monosodium glutamate [MSG], which may cause harm to the brain, heart and liver.”

According to the Association of American Feed Control Officials and other sources, pet food often contains rendered meat, animal byproducts and meat meal from the carcasses of sick or dead animals. Content is often boiled and treated with chemicals to kill bacteria, resulting in a substance that must be fortified with vitamins and minerals, all of which may contain additives.

Miett believes pets deserve the same wholesome, organic ingredients as people—foods that optimize a pet’s chance for a long, healthy and happy life.

“Each batch is made fresh, and all ingredients are bought from U.S.-based organic farming communities, which helps support sustainable agriculture,” she says.
