Tomorrow is Earth Day, and you’re off to a great start by choosing to live organically and buy your food at natural and organic food stores.
How are you celebrating tomorrow’s opportunity to get involved at the community level?
If you haven’t made plans, it’s not too late. Special events will be held in every corner of the world. Most college campuses are holding fairs or lectures, so check your newspaper for details. To find more local activities, click here.
And while you’re online, be sure to sign the Earth Day Network’s petition to halt environmental destruction. It asks Congress to:
Impose an immediate moratorium on the building of all new conventional coal-fired power plants and require a phase-out of 30% of existing coal plants by 2030.
Require that all utilities generate 30% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030.
Require that all new buildings, renovations and developments immediately reduce fossil-fuel energy consumption by 50% and that all new buildings become “carbon neutral” by 2030.
Protect the poor and middle class from unfairly bearing the cost of solving the climate crisis.
