One of the best sweet treats ever invented are marshmallows! Summertime barbecue s’mores, rice cereal treats, marshmallow frosting, and hot chocolate marshmallows are simply some of the simplest and most satisfying sweet treats ever. Our favorite marshmallow recipes are no exception.
Many think marshmallow treats are only for kids, but marshmallows can be for grownups too. These magnificent marshmallow recipes and ideas are just among some of the more grownup gourmet ways you can enjoy those gooey marshmallows you love!
Grown-up Gourmet Marshmallow Recipes and Ideas
While we may love them, most store bought marshmallows contain pretty gross ingredients. Homemade marshmallows are fairly easy to make and they taste amazing. You can also add your own flavorings or toppings to make your marshmallows a little more gourmet. It is perfectly acceptable to serve homemade marshmallows as a simple dessert--try it at your next dinner party and see just how much your guests enjoy it.
Vegans and vegetarians love marshmallows too, but traditional marshmallows are made with gelatin which is derived from animal bones and other not-so-appetizing animal by-products. You can purchase gelatin-free marshmallows, but it is better to make your own. Instead of gelatin as a binder, you can use agar agar, which is made from a type of algae.

One amazing way to make s’mores is to make them in the oven. No fire is necessary with this easy bake technique. Simply place the chocolate of your choice in the bottom of a cast iron skillet and top with marshmallows. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 5-10 minutes, depending on how well done you like your marshmallows. Scoop up the s’mores dip with graham crackers.
Another easy way to make marshmallows a little more gourmet and grownup is to make a marshmallow frosting for chocolate cupcakes or cake. You can even use a kitchen torch to lightly roast the frosting for that roasted marshmallow effect.
Kahlua Hot Chocolate
To kick up your hot chocolate with marshmallows just add one ounce of Kahlua, or other coffee liqueur, to your homemade hot chocolate for a divine grownup treat!
