This pumpkin pie protein smoothie recipe is raw and vegan but tastes like a sweet seasonal dessert. And, in true form, it packs a green game. Win, win!
It’s always a good idea to change your diet according to the season, not only because seasonal produce is healthier and often less expensive than out-of-season options, but also to challenge and excite your palate.
I am a creature of habit and struggle with changing up some of my daily dietary staples, but after stepping out of my comfort zone, I find that I am often more than delighted for having had made the switch. My morning green smoothie is a tried-and-true recipe that has become my holy grail for feeling good – some demand coffee, I bow to green sludge. But with the autumn season in full force, I decided to bring in a little seasonal flair to my blended elixir.
I chug this smoothie after my morning workout because it’s packed with plant-based protein. Hemp contains all 20 amino acids, including the nine essential amino acids, as well as omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids. It’s a good source of dietary fiber and can be found at just about every health food store. If you aren’t interested in increasing your protein intake, then you can forgo the hemp protein. Or, you can replace it with your go-to protein powder of choice. I am a huge fan of the Vega varieties.
