Warm up with this antioxidant-rich and oh-so-cozy latte made with beetroot powder, maca powder, coconut butter, almond milk, and a touch of raw honey.
The Health Benefits of Beets
Beets are incredibly healthy vegetables packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Beets are rich in folate, manganese, potassium, copper, fiber, magnesium, iron, and vitamins C and B6, and have been extensively studied for the health properties.
Beets contain unique phytonutrients known as betalains, which have been shown to be anti-inflammatory and promote the body’s natural detoxification process. Betalain pigments also display potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and chemo-preventive activity, according to this 2015 study.
Containing one of the highest amounts of natural sugars of any food, beets are naturally sweet. For this reason, beetroot powder is subtly sweet without earthy flavors or undertones like regular beets.
Beetroot powder is made from ground up dried or dehydrated beets. Mountain Rose Herbs, a manufacturer of high-quality organic spices and herbs notes that, “One teaspoon of powder provides the nutrition in one beet,” thanks to its concentrated form.
The pretty powder possesses a vibrant pinkish red hue that can be used as a natural food coloring for various recipes and baked goods. Look for organic beetroot powder at your natural grocery store or online. There should only be one ingredient on the label: beets, no fillers or additives necessary.
Beetroot powder blended up with creamy coconut butter for a touch of healthy fats, maca powder, vanilla almond milk, and a drop of raw honey, this beetroot latte is simply delicious.
- 1 ½ cups vanilla almond milk, warmed
- 1 tsp beetroot powder
- ½ tsp maca powder, optional
- 1 Tbsp coconut butter
- 1 tsp raw honey, optional
- Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender on highest speed until smooth and frothy, about 45-60 seconds.
- Pour into a mug and enjoy!
