Tonight, iconic U.S. buildings and landmarks like the Empire State Building (right), Sears Tower and Niagara Falls will display orange lights in support of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (ASPCA) Go Orange for Animals campaign.

April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, which began 3 years ago as a small grassroots adoption event in New York City. Celebrations have since expanded nationwide to celebrate the human-animal bond.

“We are encouraging everyone, young and old, to ‘Go Orange for Animals’ and support the ASPCA during the month of April,” says Ed Sayres, the organization’s president and CEO. “Whether you hold a bake sale, a benefit concert or take time to volunteer at your local animal shelter, your contribution will make a difference.”
