Celebs Celebrate the Environment at Global Green USA’s Annual Pre-Oscar Party
Global Green USA, an organization dedicated to building a more sustainable future, held its 12th Annual Pre-Oscar Party last Wednesday at AVALON Hollywood. With award season filled with event after event honoring the movie industry, it’s a refreshing platform for celebs and activists to connect and talk about the environmental issues that matter to them.
“It’s the small steps everyone takes cumulatively that make a huge impact on the environment,” said Les McCabe, Global Green USA President and CEO.
The iconic green carpet welcomed guests to the soiree, which was presented by the all-new 2016 Next Generation Chevrolet Volt. Other sponsors included Ashley Morgan, Bently Enterprises, Chantecaille, Turf Terminators, Energy Upgrade California, Defiant Whiskey, DeLoach Vineyards, Lux & Eco, One & Only Resorts, Naturepedic, Pureology, and VEEV Spirits.
Before heading in for a delish vegan dinner by Kai Loebach, celebs travelled the green carpet to not only show their support for Global Green USA’s ongoing efforts to encourage green lifestyle choices around the world, but to share their own tips and tricks. The star-studded guest list included Amy Smart, Ashley Greene, Maggie Grace, Missi Pyle, and Cheryl Tiegs, among others.

Maggie Grace chatted about the importance of meatless meals: “It’s healthy for you and for the planet. A lot of people think of transportation as the only thing they can do, but it’s actually our food system that has a way bigger impact. Think of meat as a garnish instead of the all American staple at the center of every plate.”

“We have the in, on and around you challenge,” said the fabulous Fran Drescher. “You have to start questioning what you’re putting in your mouth, what you’re putting on your skin, what you’re cleaning and gardening with. This is the way we have to go in the 21st century,” emphasizing that everything we thought in the 20th century needs to be reevaluated. (So true.)
Why, look who it is! It’s our very own Laura Klein.
This year’s bash was hosted by Ashley Greene and Theo Von, who kept everyone entertained with their adorably witty banter. Common headlined the event with an exciting performance of his Oscar-nominated song “Glory,” which I’ll be rooting for Sunday night. He closed the night perfectly when he said, “The most important thing we can have is love. When you’re talking about Global Green, you’re talking about love for the earth, love for the future.”

“It’s nice to have a green-conscious event in the middle of award season,” said Amy Smart. “It brings the awareness back to what matters.”
