Natural Product Review: S.W. Basics of Brooklyn
When you have sensitive skin, even organic beauty products can irritate. The essential oils that replace the yucky synthetic fragrances found in conventional products can make sensitive skin itchy and red, even though the oils are completely natural. Essential oils are often too potent for hyper-sensitive skin. Watered down products and exotic filler ingredients can also aggravate sensitive skin. When it comes to organic beauty, it’s often hard to find something simple.
That’s why S.W. Basics of Brooklyn is all about no-frills skincare. This natural line of skincare products all contain just five ingredients or fewer. The company believes less ingredients mean more effective skincare. That’s why the company only uses the exact necessary number of ingredients to make healthy skincare products that work.
You eco-conscious beauties will also love how the company sources its ingredients. S.W. Basics only buys from organic or Fair Trade sources, or from small family farms. You can even meet some of their suppliers.
S.W. Basics offers a line of uncomplicated products that include a cleanser, toner, cream, exfoliant, body scrub, makeup remover, body oil, lip balm and vegan lip balm. (Even the names are simple!) I got a chance to test out a few of the products in S.W. Basics’ line and am in organic beauty love. Take a look.
Cream
This delicious cream fights dry skin with just three ingredients. All are completely luxurious. The cream contains just Fair Trade shea butter, organic coconut oil and organic olive oil. The light, fresh scent is unfussy and lovely at the same time. You simply dip your fingers into the adorable glass jar, grab a little cream and glide it over your face and body. Simple and effective.
Exfoliant
When my face needs a good scrub, I love to sprinkle a little of this exfoliant in my palm, add a bit of water and give my face a deep cleanse. With just organic oat flour, organic almond flour and sea salt, this exfoliant is so easy and effective it makes you wonder why you didn’t think of combining these ingredients yourself.
Toner
This product does include essential oils, but it’s so refreshing it may not irritate sensitive skin. The toner is made up of water, organic raw apple cider vinegar, witch hazel and organic essential oils of clary sage and sandalwood. I like to spritz this toner on my face before bed to refresh my tired skin. It offers a cooling and revitalizing feeling that’s just right at the end of the day.
Makeup Remover
This makeup remover doesn’t just cleanse your face of leftover mascara, foundation and blush, it also softens and moisturizes skin. Made with hydrating organic sweet almond oil, organic olive oil and organic jojoba oil, you won’t have to worry if a little excess remover stays on your skin.
Lip Balm & Vegan Lip Balm
When you swipe lip balm onto your pucker, you know that you essentially eat that lip balm, right? You lick your lips and the balm sinks in, and you, well, ingest it. With S.W. Basics’ balms, you don’t have to worry about the ingredients going on your lips. The regular lip balms contain organic beeswax, organic extra-virgin coconut oil, organic cocoa butter and organic essential oils in citrus, cinnamon and peppermint options. The vegan lip balms simply replace beeswax with candelilla wax. Pretty cool (and thoughtful), huh?
