Looking for a signature warm cocktail to keep you toasty through all those holiday brunches you’ve got planned? The hot toddy is a splendid choice. This drink is warm and filled with rich, seasonal spices that elicit thoughts of falling snow and a crackling fireplace. I recently ran across the splendid post, “3 Hot Toddy Recipes,” at Free People Blog. I was so inspired by the awesome recipes, I wanted to share them with all of you. Read on to discover three distinct hot toddy recipes to serve at your next gathering.
1. The Perfect Hot Toddy, aka “the Original Hot Toddy”
1 ¼ oz whiskey
1 cup boiling water
1-2 tbsp honey
3 lemon wedges
8-10 whole cloves
Pour 1 1/4 oz of whiskey and squeeze 1-2 tbsp of honey into a glass or mug. Squeeze a few lemon wedges into the glass and pour boiling water on top of the ingredients. Mix the ingredients to dissolve them, then take a lemon wedge and fill each section with a clove (pointed side first).
2. The Not Toddy, aka the Virgin Toddy
6 oz hot tea
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp lemon juice
2-3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp ground or whole cloves
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 lemon wedge
Pour honey, lemon and spices into a mug or glass. Top the ingredient combo with hot tea and stir. Add a lemon wedge for garnish!
3. The Hot Apple-Ginger Toddy
6 oz ginger-infused apple cider
1 slice fresh ginger
1 tsp honey
2 oz whiskey
1 slice lemon
To infuse apple cider:
Peel and chop several slices of ginger. Bring 6-8 ounces of apple cider to a boil in a non-aluminum pot. Once the cider hits a boil, add ginger. Remove the mixture from heat and let steep for 30 minutes. Puree the mixture in a blender and strain using a cheesecloth.
Add whiskey to the ginger-infused cider while the cider is hot. Stir in honey and pour into a glass or mug. Garnish with lemon and ginger slice.
