Oops! These 2013 Fashion Trends Are Hazardous To Your Health
We may scoff and laugh at how silly they past fashions seem (Bustles? Really?), but 2013 fashion trends will likely seem just as ridiculous in a couple of decades—not to mention hazardous. In fact, we now know that styles touted as 2013 fashion trends are seriously bad for your health.
Seven 2013 Fashion Trends That Are Hazardous To Your Health
- High Heels
Hey, we all love to dress up in a pair of killer heels now and then—but what those shoes are really killing is your joints. High heels can cause back and knee pain in the short term, as well as bunions, foot arthritis, and even nerve damage in the long term. - Flip Flops
Super-flat flip flops aren’t doing your back, ankles, or knees any favors either. This summer time staple offers zero arch support. Some studies show that flip flops actually change the way you walk, forcing you to grip the sandals with your toes, and use an entirely different set of muscles. Long term wear can result in plantar fasciitis and nerve damage. - Skinny Jeans
This may make hipsters cry, but this is one of the few 2013 fashion trends that are bad for men! Men can experience twisted testicles, bladder weakness, and lower sperm counts from wearing these super tight pants. Both men and women can get fungal infections and urinary tract infections from super skinny pants, too. Yuck. - Body Piercings
You can get a TON of nasty diseases if your body piercing isn’t 100 percent clean and sanitary, including hepatitis B or C, tuberculosis, HIV, syphilis, and other blood infections. After the piercing, you can get impetigo or cellulitis—both skin infections—keloids, skin tearing, and even nerve damage. Tattoos come with a lot of the same risks. - Sexy Underwear
Tight, non-breathable underwear can create a lot of problems for ladies. Women can experience yeast infections, urinary tract infections, and chronic breast pain from ill-fitting undergarments. Likewise, banana hammocks and other tight underwear for gents can cause low sperm count, jock itch, urinary tract infections and bladder weakness. - Giant Purses
Super-sized bags make it easy to carry your entire life around with you, but that’s not a good thing. Heavy purses can cause back and neck pain and spasms, muscle and joint damage, severe spine misalignment and even permanent nerve damage. Doctors recommend that your purse weigh no more than 10 percent of your body weight…and even that seems excessive. - Chemical Fabrics
Most clothing is treated with chemicals for a variety of reasons—from dyes to fire retardants, and formaldehyde—but the actual chemical makeup of the fabric itself can also be toxic. Experts suggest you avoid polyester, acrylic, rayon, nylon and anything static resistant, stain resistant, permanent press, wrinkle-free, stain proof or moth repellent.
We know you probably won’t ditch high heels or skinny jeans completely, but please keep these things in mind when you’re choosing your wardrobe every day. We like our readers safe and healthy!
