11 Fabulous Organic Cocktails and Spirits to Ring in the Holidays
The holidays are nearly upon us! I can already hear the clinking of glasses and happy toasts from organic cocktails shared with family, friends, and loved ones. This holiday season drink not only responsibly but also organically with these delicious organic cocktails featuring the very best of organic spirits.
#1 Idyllwild Julep with Cognac Park
Cognac Park Brand Ambassador Naomi Schimek created a variation on the Georgia Julep, which is itself a variation of a the Mint Julep: one of the most popular cocktails in mid-19th Century America.
Ingredients
2 oz Cognac Park Fin Bois Organic
1 organic sugar cube
.5 oz. pear brandy
sprigs of fresh rosemary
Directions
In your cocktail tin, muddle the sugar cube into the pear brandy (we like Grand Breuil). Add one inch of fresh rosemary and lightly muddle into the mix. Add the cognac and strain all into a julep cup. Fill with crushed ice, swizzle and garnish lavishly with fresh rosemary and pear.
#2 Spiced Gimlet with Twisted Path Organic Gin
Ingredients
3/4 oz Organic Lime juice
3/4 oz Organic Cinnamon syrup (recipe below)
2 oz Twisted Path Organic Gin
1 eyedropper Bittercube Jamaican #1 Bitters
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a shaker, fill with ice and shake. Double strain into coupe glass and garnish with rosemary sprig.
Cinnamon Syrup
1183 g Water
3 g Organic Ceylon Cinnamon
5 g Organic Cassia Cinnamon
Organic Granulated Sugar
Bring water to a boil. Lower heat to a simmer and add cinnamon. Let simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for an additional 20 minutes. Strain cinnamon. Measure remaining amount of cinnamon water and add an equal part of granulated sugar (e.g. 860 grams of water, use 860 grams of sugar). Whisk until amalgamated.
#3 Gin n’ Juice with KOVAL Dry Gin
Ingredients
2 oz KOVAL Dry Gin
1 oz grapefruit juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
4 oz soda water
Directions
Mix and then garnish with grapefruit peel and sprig of mint
#4 Lemoncino Bubble with Punzoné Lemoncino
Ingredients
1.5 oz Punzoné Organic Limoncello
.25 oz Pomegranate juice
.25 oz Simple syrup
.75 oz Champagne
Directions
Mix all ingredients except Champagne over ice and strain into a champagne flute or martini glass. Top with the Champagne. Then garnish with an orange peel ring.
#5 Nutty Russian with Prairie Organic Vodka
Ingredients
¾ oz. Prairie Organic Vodka
¾ oz. Nocino
¾ oz. coffee liqueur
Splash of soda water
Cinnamon whipped cream
Directions
Mix all ingredients. Then top with soda water and finish with cinnamon whipped cream.
#6 Alaskan Pine with LEAF Vodka
Mixologist Juyoung Kang created this Alaskan Pine Winter Cocktail.
Ingredients
1.5oz LEAF Vodka Made from Alaskan Glacial Water
1oz Lemon juice
1oz Vanilla syrup
1 sprig of fresh Rosemary
1 sprig of fresh Sage
1 dash of Lavender bitters
Tools: Mixing shaker tins, jigger, strainer, muddler.
Directions
Put in mixing tin rosemary and sage and bruise with muddler (just press it down so the oils of the herbs are expressed). Add rest of the ingredients, add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a coupe glass, garnish with lavender and rosemary and serve.
#7 Whisky Chai with KOVAL Organic Bourbon
This delicious, superfood packed, cocktail recipe is from Torie Borrelli, holistic nutritionist and cook and founder of The Vida Well.
Serves 6
Ingredients
2 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
20 black peppercorns
16 whole cloves
8 cardamom pods, seeds removed from the pod
1 tsp ground ginger
pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
1 quart organic whole milk (sub coconut milk for dairy-free alternative)
¼ cup raw local honey or stevia drops to taste
1 tbsp organic loose black tea
3 ounces KOVAL organic bourbon
Directions
In a spice grinder or mortal, pulse all of the spices into a powder, or grind by hand.
In a saucepan, bring milk to a simmer. Remove from head and add spices, sweetener, and tea and let stand for ten minutes.
Strain the chai into a bowl. Wipe out saucepan.
Return the chai to the saucepan and reheat over moderate heat. Stir in whiskey and serve hot.
#8 Spiced Rum Cider with Humboldt Organic Spiced Rum
Ingredients
2 oz Humboldt Distillery Organic Spiced Rum
6 oz hot apple cider
Directions
Garnish with a slice of orange and cinnamon stick.
#9 Lady Slipper with Piedra Luenga Pedro Ximenez
This chocolatey cocktail is created by Ariane Resnick, author of “The Thinking Girl’s Guide to Drinking.”
Ingredients
3 ounces Piedra Luenga Organic Pedro Ximenez
1/4 ounce crème de cacao
1/2 teaspoon chocolate extract
Directions
Pour all the ingredients into a sherry glass and stir.
#10 Willie Juancho & The Chocolate Factory with Diplomatico Rum
Ingredients
1.5 oz Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva
.5 oz Dark Creme de cacao
Instant coffee
Lime
Directions
Mix Diplomático and Crème de Cacao. Prepare snifter glass by wetting the rim with lime and dip in instant coffee. Pour in prepared snifter glass.
#11 Thyme and Thyme Again with KOVAL Barreled Gin
Ingredients
2 oz KOVAL barreled gin
1/4 oz maple syrup
1/2oz lemon juice
1 tsp thyme
few dashes of orange bitters
Directions
Muddle thyme and maple syrup in shaker. Shake all ingredients with ice. Double strain into cocktail glass, garnish with thyme.
