Sustainable Food & Wine Tasting Event Pours into Pasadena

With more and more research illuminating the varied health perks found in drinking wine, you don’t need much of an excuse to seek out the best vino in town. And if you’re in the Los Angeles area, that can be easily done by heading over to the restaurant a/k/a An American Bistro in Pasadena on Saturday, March 31, 2012for a sustainable table interactive demo, wine tasting and wine dinner.

The Napa-inspired bistro will welcome a/k/a Chef James Lambrinos and Bistro 45 Chef Steven Lona for interactive cooking demos from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. In addition to meeting the chefs, guests will also be able to sample wines throughout the demos from three Santa Barbara wineries, courtesy of the event sponsors — Melissa’s World Variety Produce and Santa Barbara County Vintner’s Association.

During the cooking demos, both of the chefs will demonstrate how to creatively work with seasonal produce including Brussels sprouts, kumquats, fennel and butternut squash to prepare high-end/low-impact cuisine. A five-course sustainable wine dinner prepared by the chefs will follow at 5:30 pm, and will include a variety of wines from Napa Valley and the following menus:

Bistro 45’s Steven Lona will prepare roasted Brussels Sprouts with duck confit, preserved kumquats and sunchoke chips; salad of organic fennel and potatoes served with a brown butter anisette aioli; fricasse of white asparagus and arugula served with spicy grapefruit vin and Shishito peppers

a/k/a’s James Lambrinos will prepare roasted butternut squash soup with mint yogurt; kabocha squash risotto with a cinnamon spiced crème; grilled purple and white asparagus with truffle vin; grilled fennel with charred tomato vin; grilled Brussels sprouts with chipotle vin.

The cost for the tasting event on it’s own is $18 and includes all food and wine, but Organic Authority readers get a special price of $15 per ticket when you use the code “Organic Authority” to grab your discount. Cost for the five-course dinner is $65 per person. More information is available at www.akabistro.com
