Today, there are more vegan celebrities than ever before. Why are they coming out in favor of a plant-based diet? While some of them are more vocal about it than others, it’s usually a combination of health, environmental, and ethical reasons. Here are just a few stars you might not know are either vegetarian or vegan.

1. Alanis Morissette

This ’90s alt-pop star gave up meat in 2009 to lose weight and found that she had far more benefits than just weight loss. “I feel very alive,” she says. “I have no more aches and pains, and my allergies are gone, too.”

“I went to the doctor and found that I had eight ulcers in my stomach, and then I found out that I had a condition from it, from excessive smoking,” he says. “Right there, that was a game changer… I quit everything immediately.”
