Sweat is odorless, but it’s the bacteria that build up in moist environments that cause an unappealing smell. Here are three quick and easy foot soaks that will fight bacteria-causing odors on your feet and allow you to put a fresh foot forward.
Summer is a glorious time of year, but it can be less than glamorous, especially when the sweat kicks in and your hair gets frizzy, your skin shiny and your complexion turns red. Don’t add on stinky feet to your frazzled state, especially when you can help it.
But before we get into the foot soak recipes, try to be more conscious about how you treat your feet. When you are in the shower, do not forget to scrub and exfoliate your feet, from the ankles to in between the toes to the soles. Also, be sure that they are completely dry before you put on socks. And, speaking of socks – always wear them with sneakers and other shoes that more or less suffocate the feet. Socks will absorb the sweat and keep them relatively dry. Otherwise, you are in for a smellier situation. However, these tips may not be enough to combat foot odor. Here are three foot soaks to kick the smell to the curb.
- ½ cup of Epsom salt
- 8 cups warm water
Directions: Fill a basin up with the water and pour in the salt. Stir until dissolved. Place feet in it and let soak for 30 minutes. Repeat 2-3 times per week or as needed.
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1-2 teaspoons dried sage
- 8 cups boiling water
Directions: Pour boiling water into a basin. Add the dried rosemary and sage and let soak. Once the water has cooled down but is still warm enough to touch, place feet in the basin and soak for 30 minutes. Repeat 2-3 times per week or as needed.
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 8 cups warm water
Directions: Mix together the apple cider vinegar and water in a basin. Place feet in the basin and soak for 30 minutes. Repeat 2-3 times per week or as needed
