The saying goes, “when life gives you lemons…” as if they’re undesirable. But there are so many reasons they should top your list of go-to foods. Full of vitamins, antioxidants and oh yes, lip-puckering yummy flavor, it’s no wonder lemonade is the drink of the season. If you’ve never ventured into homemade lemonade recipes before, let this be the summer everything changes.
Lemons are extremely versatile. Their acidic nature makes them useful in countless recipes, but the effects of lemons are actually mostly alkaline to the body. What that means is they can help to offset some of the acidic overdoings common in our modern diet (think coffee, alcohol, fried foods, meat…). They help to cleanse the liver and remove toxins, and they can keep you regular (try drinking lemon and water first thing in the morning).
And of course, there’s something about all that tartness that’s just so quenching. Could there be a more perfect drink for summer than a fresh homemade lemonade?
