Women worldwide united in some serious girl power when “Wonder Woman” swung into theaters earlier this summer and instantly became a global smash. What’s even more formidable than the movie itself is its star, Gal Gadot, and her very impressive, and enviable, biceps and thighs.
If you’re curious about what it takes to become a superhero, Marie Claire recently revealed what the 31 year-old actress eats in a day to help her flex those muscles. The best part? Gadot’s diet is healthy, sensible and easy-to-follow, which means it just became a whole lot simpler to attain a powerful physique.
She Makes Sure to Eat a Well-Balanced Breakfast
Gadot understands that breakfast isn’t called the most important meal of the day for nothing. By starting the day with eggs, toast, and fruit, the star is fueling her body with essential nutrients, including fiber and protein, to help keep her energy levels up throughout the day. On other mornings, the actress will make breakfast smoothies with her five-year-old daughter, Alma. “We make smoothies in the morning with parsley, celery, green apples, and ginger–basically, we throw in whatever we have,” she told Marie Claire U.K. Sounds like a breakfast fit for a champion, no?
She Snacks Healthy
The struggle of the 3 p.m. snack attack is real – even for superheroes. Gadot keeps it healthy though by munching on fresh fruits, veggies, and avocado toast. The veggies and fruit are packed with nutritional goodness, while the healthy monounsaturated fats found in avocados will help you feel full, so you’ll be less tempted by the office cookie jar.
She Loves Her Veggie and Protein
“I eat a lot of fish and chicken, and I make sure that around 30–40 percent of our family diet is made of cooked or raw vegetables,” the actress said. A diet consisting of lean protein, like fish and chicken, along with fibrous vegetables as the primary source of carbohydrates is not only filled with essential nutrients, but it’s also key to getting and staying lean. No “wonder” her bod is so bodacious!
She Drinks Tons of Water
The star told E! Online that she drinks “a ton of water.” Hydration is a must for a healthy diet. Consuming at least eight glasses of water per day (and more if you’re working out) helps your body function properly, while flushing out toxins, increasing energy and giving your complexion a nice healthy glow.
She Lives By “Everything in Moderation”
Even Wonder Woman treats herself to a cheat meal or two. “I try to eat healthy,” she said to E! Online. “But sometimes though, I eat cheeseburgers. That’s good for the soul. I make sure to balance everything out.” Though Gadot doesn’t say no to a good burger or a delicious scoop of ice cream, she also understands the importance of portion control a.k.a. balance. “I don’t restrict myself, I can eat everything. It’s all a matter of measurements and quantity of the food,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. Cheat meals are important to a well-balanced diet because they allow you to satisfy cravings, while also giving you the opportunity to live a little. In fact, recent research has found that giving yourself an incentive or reward, like a slice of your favorite cake, can be an effective strategy for weight loss goals. Keep your cheat meals in balance by drinking a glass of water 20 minutes beforehand, or by eating from a smaller plate, which tricks your brain into thinking you’re having a bigger meal.
Ultimately, when it comes to having a Wonder Woman-worthy diet, perhaps the biggest takeaway comes from the star herself: “Just give the food the respect and give yourself the respect to enjoy it.”
