Kristen Bell Nails the Absurdity of Online Food Stamp Rules (and Pygmy Three-Toed Sloths) [Video]

While my daughter would much prefer to watch Kristen Bell singing all of her hit “Frozen” songs in perpetuity, here’s hoping this new video starring Princess Anna herself goes viral. In a partnership with Thrive Market, which recently launched a campaign to allow use of food stamps (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) for online grocery purchases, Ms. Bell adorably reminds us of the immense power of the Internet. That is, unless you’re one of the more than 40 million Americans who rely on food stamps to put food on the table.

Thrive Market offers healthy foods at a significant discount with a minimal membership fee. But under the SNAP program rules, those less expensive healthy foods are ineligible for online purchase by SNAP recipients; they have to find them in a brick and mortar store where prices are often much higher.

You can sign the petition urging USDA Secretary Tom Vilsak to update the rules to include online purchases here. And watch Ms. Bell’s video below.
