Mark Bittman’s iPhone App Helps You Cook Everything Vegetarian

Oh the many reasons we love New York Times columnist and bestselling author, Mark Bittman. His food sensibilities make us want to trade in our frying pans for feather plume pens so that we can prattle our praises in poetic piety.

And now there’s one more reason to go ga-ga over this foodie extraordinaire. Mark Bittman has recently launched a brilliant iPhone app based on his cookbook, How to Cook Everything Vegetarian.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. If you prefer praises from someone like Dr. Oz, he says Bittman “makes being vegetarian fun”; Bobby Flay says it’s the way to make a meat-lover like himself “fall in love” with vegetarian cooking; and Mario Batali finds that “everything I want to cook is in here, from chickpea fries to cheese soufflés.”

A one-stop shop vegetarian cookbook, Bittman’s How to Cook Everything Vegetarian has been translated into more than 2,000 recipes on the app (900 tagged as vegan!), plus how-to illustrations, and special features designed specifically for you modern cooks always on the go. Meatless recipes include easy stir-fries, pasta and veggie burgers. For DIY lovers, how about some homemade tofu cheese?

Some of the coolest functions: The user-friendly email shopping list tool lets you easily create organized grocery lists so that you remember to pick up all the items needed. You can add to your iCals for meal planning and easily switch between apps. There are also built-in timers, placed throughout the recipe steps to keep your meal on track for super deliciousness instead of over or undercooked “what-happened?” meal disasters. And what would an iPhone app be without Facebook and Twitter functions? Share your How to Cook Everything Vegetarian faves with your networks easily, too.

How to Cook Everything Vegetarian is available at the iTunes store and retails for $4.99.
