NYC Oktoberfest 2010: Top 6 Breweries

This past week was the close of Oktoberfest celebrations and NY Craft Beer Week … a moment of silence, please. So if you already miss your old bud (get it?) beer, grab your stein and hit up one of these breweries or bars in New York. Girls, we’re talking to you, too!
Brooklyn Brewery – One of the most known NYC beers, this Williamsburg brewery gets flooded every weekend for tours. Down seasonal favorites like the malty Oktoberfest, Post Road Pumpkin Ale, Brooklyn Winter Ale, Black Chocolate Stout, and Monster Ale. Brooklyn Brewery, 79 N. 11th St., Brooklyn.
Sixpoint Craft Ales – This Red Hook brewery churns out gulp-worthy pints like the spicy pumpkin beer, and their new Mad Scientist and Lager series. Take a tour or sip it at these hotspots. Sixpoint Craft Ales, 40 Van Dyke St., Brooklyn.
McSorley’s Old Ale House – This iconic brew comes in two flavors of ale: light and dark. Knock ‘em back at their historic saloon where you’ll get a pair of drinks per order along with a surly ‘tude. But that’s all part of the fun. Currently owned by Pabst Brewing Company, this beer bounced from brewer to brewer in NYC and even survived prohibition. McSorley’s Old Ale House, 15 E. 7th St., Manhattan.
Heartland Brewery – They brew out in Brooklyn but there are seven restaurant locations that serve up seasonal creations from this brewery. Swing in for a Smiling Pumpkin Ale, French Toast Ale, or Grateful Red Lager.
Chelsea Brewing Company – Near Chelsea? Take a tour of Manhattan’s largest microbrewery complete with beer barrels, grain silos, and automated bottling system. Sip on their newest creations; the crisp, dry Checker Cab Blond Ale, and the caramel-laden Sunset Red. Chelsea Brewing Company, Chelsea Piers, Pier 59, Manhattan.
Kelso of Brooklyn – This favorite brews beer with local names like Carroll Gardens Wit, St. Gowanus, and has even teamed up with Blue Hill at Stone Barns for flavors like Chocolate Lager and Nut Brown Lager. Find it at places like dba Brooklyn, Back Forty, Bierkraft, and more.
